PW250 supports up to 250 M-Bus meters and simplifies bus expansion.

PW250 is an industrial M-Bus level converter and M-Bus repeater designed for large metering installations where stable communication, convenient integration with the master system and further bus expansion are all critical. This model supports up to 250 M-Bus devices, making it a strong choice for meter reading systems in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, hotels, hospitals, logistics centers and advanced BMS applications.

Thanks to its transparent operation, PW250 can be easily integrated into existing infrastructures where data from energy, heat, water or gas meters is forwarded to DDC controllers, building automation systems, service computers and PC-based data acquisition software. This is a practical solution for projects where simple meter connection is not enough and broad communication through Ethernet 10/100Base-T, USB, two RS232C interfaces and RS485 is also required.

PW250 for large and demanding M-Bus networks

One of the main advantages of PW250 is the combination of high bus capacity and a practical set of communication interfaces. In one enclosure, you get a device that not only powers and handles 250 M-Bus meters, but also makes it easy to connect the installation to multiple master environments. This is especially important where the metering system must work simultaneously with building automation, service stations and configuration computers.

In practice, PW250 simplifies integration in both new projects and modernization works where communication between M-Bus meters and the master system must be organized efficiently. Its wide application range includes utility metering systems in office buildings, shopping centers, production plants, public facilities and projects where dependable communication and resistance to interference are essential.

M-Bus repeater function and easy network expansion

PW250 works not only as an M-Bus level converter, but also as an M-Bus repeater. This is a major benefit in projects where the maximum number of meters or the permissible cable length has already been exceeded. In such cases, the device allows the network to be expanded by another 250 devices or the bus length to be extended without rebuilding the whole installation.

In repeater mode, PW250 regenerates the signal digitally, which improves transmission quality and increases communication stability in extensive networks. This is particularly useful in larger metering systems where distances between measurement points are significant. Another practical advantage is the possibility of cascading or parallel connection of multiple repeaters, giving greater flexibility when designing and expanding an M-Bus network.

Multi-interface communication without collisions

One of the strongest arguments in favor of PW250 is its extended interface set. The device is equipped with Ethernet 10/100Base-T, USB 2.0, two RS232C ports and RS485, allowing it to operate in many different communication architectures. This interface combination is especially practical in facilities where part of the infrastructure still relies on serial communication while other systems require network access.

The added value is not only the number of ports, but also intelligent interface management. PW250 controls access to the M-Bus so that only one interface can communicate with the connected devices at a given time. This reduces the risk of collisions and supports safe cooperation between several master systems connected to one M-Bus line.

Stable transmission, galvanic isolation and operational safety

PW250 supports M-Bus baud rates from 300 to 38,400 bps, allowing operating parameters to be matched to the type of installation and the number of connected devices. The unit includes mechanisms responsible for overload protection, short-circuit detection and transmission regeneration, which makes this model suitable even for more demanding and distributed metering installations.

Another important strength of PW250 is the galvanic isolation of all interfaces from the M-Bus, along with additional isolation of the repeater input. In real installations, this means better resistance to interference, potential differences and issues that often occur in long metering bus lines. Clear LED indicators make diagnostics easier and allow quick detection of states such as M-Bus activity, communication status, overload and short circuit.

Mounting and practical use

PW250 features an integrated 110–240 VAC power supply, which simplifies deployment in different types of facilities and reduces the need for additional power components. The ABS enclosure with IP52 protection is suitable for wall mounting and, with an optional accessory, also for installation on a DIN rail TS35. This makes the unit easy to adapt to typical technical rooms and building automation cabinets.
