Industrial CAN to PROFIBUS converters
In this section of our shop you will find converters from CAN to PROFIBUS interface. CAN is the communication bus most commonly used in the automotive industry and for controlling ECUs (electronic control units), motors, sensors, controllers and recording systems. Profibus is a popular industrial protocol used in control, offering high possibilities for very fast communication with I/O devices and many diagnostic options. Converters allow, for example, the integration of ECUs, sensor systems, motors and other CAN systems into a PROFIBUS network (e.g. with a Siemens PLC).
Learn more about our CAN to PROFIBUS converters
Each CAN to PROFIBUS converter available in our range features easy DIN rail mounting, a wide range of supply voltages from 12-35VDC or 24VAC battery power, resistance to electromagnetic interference and the possibility of installation in environments with a wide temperature range from -40°C to 85°C. The converters, due to the characteristics of the CAN standard, are ideal for installations next to engines and heavy machinery generating large amounts of interference (e.g. in rolling stock).
Our CAN to PROFIBUS converters support the standards 11-bit CAN 2.0A, 29-bit CAN 2.0B, CANopen and Profibus DP V0. The maximum CAN transmission speed is 1Mb/s at 25m bus and 10Kb/s at up to 5000m bus. Depending on the version, the converters can operate in CAN-Profibus slave, mode, where a master device on the Profibus side communicates with the converter (e.g. a PLC) or in CAN-Profibus master mode, where the converter establishes communication with the Profibus slaves.
Thanks to the free software included with each device, CAN-to-Profibus converters are very easy to configure. The data from the CAN devices can be updated cyclically at a certain time set in the configuration or sent after each change of the frame value (on-change parameter). After configuring the read and write CAN frames of the converter, we have the possibility to save the module configuration in a GSD file and import it on the Profibus protocol side, for even faster and easier integration.
In the most difficult applications, modules in the automotive version can be used, which have an IP67 sealed housing, M12 connectors, triple 4000V insulation and an even wider operating temperature range from -40°C to 105°C.
