IEC 61850 switch - functions, interfaces and extras
IEC 61850 industrial switches come in managed versions and have between 4 and 28 Ethernet ports with 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps speeds. The housings of the best switches are made of metal and allow operation in harsh environments.
The switch is often equipped with 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps fibre ports. The fibre ports can be built in at the production stage or retrofitted with SFP inserts. In order to appropriately select a switch for fibre optics, special attention should be paid to the type of fibre optic connector grinding and the type of fibre optic (single-mode or multimode).
An external switch will most often be equipped with a wide 12-48VDC power supply, and some industrial switches are also equipped with a fail-safe alarm relay.
