The IN485SAM001R000 communication gateway enables integration of Samsung NASA HVAC systems with building and industrial automation installations using BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU. The device operates as a server gateway on the supervisory system side and provides bidirectional communication between the Samsung indoor unit and a BMS, PLC or SCADA system. On the automation side, the gateway uses an EIA-485 port, while on the HVAC side it connects to the Samsung F3/F4 RC bus.

The IN485SAM001R000 is designed to integrate Samsung NASA indoor units into a control system based on BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU. The gateway continuously polls the HVAC unit, stores the current signal status in its memory and serves this data to the supervisory system when requested. It also sends commands received from the BMS to the Samsung unit, enabling both monitoring and control of HVAC operating parameters.

IN485SAM001R000 – Samsung NASA integration topology with BMS
A typical operating topology includes a Samsung NASA indoor unit, the F3/F4 RC bus, the IN485SAM001R000 gateway and the EIA-485 bus on the BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU side. In practice, this means that one device model can be used in buildings with BACnet automation as well as in installations where the supervisory system communicates through Modbus RTU. The operating mode is selected in hardware, without the need for an external configuration tool.

The device supports hybrid control of the indoor unit: local control through the Samsung wired remote controller, if present, and simultaneous centralized control through the BMS. This is useful in commercial buildings, hotels, offices and technical facilities where the end user can retain local access to the HVAC unit while the supervisory system monitors operation, modes, setpoints, alarms and maintenance signals.

IN485SAM001R000 – DIP switch configuration without software
All gateway configuration parameters are set exclusively using the built-in DIP switches. Switch SW1-5 is used to select the control system: BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU. Other DIP switch positions allow the baud rate, BACnet MAC address or Modbus server address, temperature unit, 120 Ω termination and EIA-485 bus polarization to be configured. DIP switch changes take effect only after the gateway is rebooted.

IN485SAM001R000 – BACnet Objects and Modbus RTU registers
In BACnet MS/TP mode, the gateway exposes Samsung unit functions as BACnet objects, including on/off status, operation mode, temperature setpoint, fan speed, air direction, room temperature, error codes, alarm status, operating time counter, filter signal, remote controller lock and AirClean, WindFree and Dual Set Point functions. In Modbus RTU mode, data access is handled through Modbus registers, which simplifies integration with PLCs, industrial automation systems and BMS platforms using serial communication.

IN485SAM001R000 – DSP, AirClean and WindFree support
The gateway supports the Dual Set Point function, which allows separate setpoint temperatures to be specified for heating and cooling modes. It also provides signals related to AirClean and WindFree. The WindFree feature can be enabled in cooling, fan and dry modes. For the Cassette 360 model, dedicated signals are available for monitoring and controlling the up/down air flow direction.

IN485SAM001R000 – EIA-485 wiring practice
On the BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU side, the gateway uses an EIA-485 port with B-, A+ and SG terminals. A shielded cable should be used, correct polarity must be observed, and the bus should be wired in a linear topology without star or loop connections. The maximum EIA-485 bus length is 1200 m. If the gateway is installed at one end of the bus, the built-in 120 Ω termination resistor can be activated using SW3-1.

FAQ – IN485SAM001R000 setup and diagnostics

Specific answers for HVAC/BMS integrators: Samsung NASA, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU, DIP switches, F3/F4 RC bus, EIA-485, DSP, AirClean and WindFree.

? Does the IN485SAM001R000 support only BACnet MS/TP?

No. The IN485SAM001R000 can operate in BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU mode. The mode is selected using DIP switch SW1-5: OFF sets BACnet MS/TP, while ON sets Modbus RTU.

? Which HVAC systems is the IN485SAM001R000 designed for?

The gateway is designed for Samsung NASA HVAC systems. On the HVAC side, it connects to the Samsung F3/F4 RC bus.

? Does the IN485SAM001R000 require software for configuration?

No. All configuration parameters are set using DIP switches. The gateway does not require an external configuration interface or additional software tool for basic commissioning.

? Does the gateway allow simultaneous local and centralized control?

Yes. The device supports hybrid control: local control through a Samsung wired remote controller, if present, and simultaneous centralized control through the BMS.

? Can several indoor units be connected to one gateway?

The gateway is intended for 1:1 control, meaning integration of a single indoor unit. It can also be used for grouped control, but connected units then operate as one group and different commands cannot be sent to different units.

? Which additional functions does the IN485SAM001R000 support?

The device supports Dual Set Point (DSP), AirClean and WindFree functions. The WindFree function can be used in cooling, fan and dry modes.

? Does the IN485SAM001R000 require an external power supply?

In most cases, the gateway is powered through the remote controller bus. An external 12 VDC, 105 mA power supply may be needed if the gateway shares the RC bus with other Samsung remote controllers.

? What should be checked if the BMS does not detect the IN485SAM001R000?

First check the SW1-5 setting, which selects BACnet MS/TP or Modbus RTU. Then verify the baud rate, BACnet MAC or Modbus server address, A/B polarity, SG connection, 120 Ω termination and correct EIA-485 bus wiring without star or loop topology.

For commissioning, it is useful to know the Samsung NASA indoor unit model, selected communication protocol, device addressing, baud rate and the topology of the EIA-485 and F3/F4 RC bus.
