HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 is an industrial Modbus TCP Slave / HTTP/REST Client converter by ADFweb, designed to integrate automation systems based on Modbus TCP with applications, servers and platforms communicating through HTTP/REST. On the automation side, the device operates as a Modbus TCP Slave, so it can be read or written by a supervisory Modbus TCP Master in an Ethernet network. On the web communication side, the converter works as an HTTP/REST Client, allowing process data, machine states, alarms, counters or measured values to be transmitted to an external HTTP/REST server. The HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 variant is equipped with LAN + SIM LTE + eSIM connectivity and VPN Service. This makes it the most advanced version in this group, combining wired Ethernet, a physical LTE SIM card, integrated eSIM and the possibility to use VPN connectivity.

HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 enables classic industrial communication to be connected with data exchange based on HTTP/REST. In practice, this means that data from the Modbus TCP area can be made available to IT applications, IIoT systems, reporting tools, supervisory platforms, telemetry systems or software developed for a specific installation. The converter is not a simple network adapter, but a configurable gateway in which the user defines Modbus TCP communication parameters, HTTP/REST settings, the list of accessible endpoints and the structure of the transmitted payload. The presence of SIM LTE and eSIM allows the device to be used in distributed facilities, telemetry cabinets, field installations and locations without permanent access to wired network infrastructure. The additional VPN Service extends remote access possibilities and supports applications where a more controlled connection path is required. At the same time, the Ethernet RJ45 port allows LAN communication to be used whenever a local network is available.

Ethernet RJ45, LTE module, SIM card, eSIM and VPN Service

The HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 has 1 Ethernet RJ45 port, used for device configuration, Modbus TCP communication and HTTP/REST communication. The Ethernet interface supports 10/100 Base-T Autosensing, allowing operation in standard industrial and technical Ethernet networks. The G43-E-VPN version extends HTTP/REST communication with mobile connectivity through a physical SIM card, integrated eSIM and VPN Service. According to the manufacturer’s documentation, G43 variants use an LTE module, a physical Micro-SIM card and an SMA Female antenna connector, so signal conditions, antenna selection and mounting location should be considered during installation design. The integrated eSIM provides an additional LTE connectivity option available from ADFweb’s platform, while VPN Service supports applications requiring remote communication. The device also provides electrical isolation between Ethernet and Power Supply, improving stability in industrial environments and reducing the influence of disturbances between the communication section and the power section.

HTTP/REST payload definition and flexible data mapping

One of the key functions of the HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 is the possibility to define the payload structure for HTTP/REST communication. Data available on the Modbus side can be linked to the HTTP/REST message through templates that define the variable format, the starting bit in the device’s internal memory and the data size in bits. The software supports formats such as unsigned integer, signed integer, float, binary, string, hexadecimal and Base64. This allows the converter to prepare data in the structure expected by the HTTP/REST server, for example in a JSON-like format or in a layout required by a specific application. This function is especially useful for transmitting measured values, operating states, alarms, counters, production parameters or diagnostic data from the automation system to higher-level software. All key settings are defined through the configuration tool, without the need to create custom firmware or program the device from scratch.

Configuration and diagnostics

The HD67G11-G43-E-VPN-B2 converter is configured using SW67G11 software. The program allows the user to define HTTP/REST communication parameters, set the Modbus TCP line parameters, define the list of endpoints accessible from the HTTP/REST side and update the device. The software works with MS Windows systems and requires .NET Framework 4. The ADFweb Discovery Tool can be used to find the device in the network and check its IP address. The converter also includes a recovery button that allows the device to be switched into Recovery Mode in case of an incorrect firmware update or a problem affecting normal operation. Four LEDs provide information about device state, Modbus TCP communication, HTTP/REST communication and error state.
