Industrial Modbus gateway - how to select RTU/ASCII gateway on TCP?
What is the Modbus gateway used for?
The Modbus gateway allows rapid integration of devices communicating in Modbus RTU or ASCII protocol with devices communicating in Modbus TCP protocol. The gateway can have from 1 to 8 physical RS-232 or RS-485 communication ports for RTU and ASCII communication and up to 2 Ethernet ports for Modbus TCP communication.
Modbus gateway - product characteristics and features
The devices available in our range are characterised by industrial, energy-efficient design, up to 5-year warranty, resistance to vibration, shock and electromagnetic discharge. Depending on the model, the converters are DIN rail mounted, have galvanic isolation up to 3000V, a wide power supply range of 12-48VDC, 24VAC battery power or power supply via PoE function. The devices' wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 75°C allows the gateways to be installed in environments exposed to frost and the very high temperatures reached in industrial control cabinets. The converters have RS-232 to DB9, power and RS-485 ports on a screw connector and an Ethernet port with RJ45 connector.
The Modbus gateway has several operating modes, including. Modbus RTU/SCII master to Modbus TCP slave mode, where the TCP-side master communicates with slaves on the RTU side, and Modbus RTU/ASCII slave to Modbus TCP master mode, where the RTU-side master communicates with slaves on the TCP side. Selected gateways have a built-in Ethernet switch (2 LAN ports), support up to 256 clients on the Modbus TCP side, up to 240 slaves on the RTU bus, have IP or MAC address filtering capabilities, have SNMP or email alerting and event logging functionality. The MOD-ETH gateway is additionally equipped with digital inputs and outputs manageable from the Modbus TCP master.
Converters are configured using the free software supplied, telnet console or via the built-in web interface.
