Industrial PROFIBUS DP V0 to RS485 converters & gateways
Industrial PROFIBUS to RS-485 converters
In this part of our shop, you will find industrial-grade converters that allow seamless communication between PROFIBUS networks and devices using the RS-485 interface. These PROFIBUS to RS-485 converters are designed to integrate equipment such as sensors, energy meters, barcode scanners, or custom devices using Modbus RTU into PROFIBUS-based systems. PROFIBUS (Process Field Bus) is a globally recognized industrial communication protocol widely used in manufacturing, utilities, and process control applications. By converting PROFIBUS to RS-485, users can bridge legacy or serial devices with modern PROFIBUS controllers, improving flexibility and system interoperability.
Features of PROFIBUS to RS-485 converters
All PROFIBUS to RS-485 converters available in our offer come in rugged, industrial enclosures suitable for DIN rail mounting. They offer a wide power supply range (e.g., 12–35 VDC or 24 VAC), 3000V galvanic isolation between interfaces, and high resistance to electromagnetic interference. These converters are perfect for installation in both control cabinets and outdoor enclosures, thanks to their extended operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
Our converters support PROFIBUS DP-V0 protocol and are equipped with auto-detection of transmission speed up to 12 Mbps on the PROFIBUS side, and up to 115200 bps on the RS-485 side. The RS-485 interface can be used for Modbus RTU or other serial communication protocols, depending on your setup. PROFIBUS communication is available via DB9 connector, and RS-485 through screw terminals for secure wiring. These converters act as PROFIBUS slaves, making them compatible with PLCs such as Siemens S7-300/S7-400/S7-1200 or other master devices supporting the DP protocol.
Configuration and integration
Each converter includes free configuration software that enables quick and intuitive setup. After defining communication parameters on both sides, the software automatically generates a GSD file (General Station Description), which can be imported into the PROFIBUS master controller or engineering software like TIA Portal or Step7. No additional licensing is required. The software also enables data mapping between RS-485 registers and PROFIBUS data structures, supporting basic data conversions like byte/word swapping or scaling.
Where PROFIBUS to RS-485 converters are used
These converters are commonly deployed in industrial automation systems, power plants, water treatment facilities, building management systems (BMS), and transportation infrastructure. They are ideal for connecting distributed RS-485 devices to central PROFIBUS networks and enhancing system communication without the need to redesign the existing infrastructure. By bridging PROFIBUS and RS-485, you can reduce integration time and extend the life of older serial equipment within modern fieldbus networks.
