The CAN to PROFIBUS converter is an advanced device that allows CANbus to be integrated into networks based on the PROFIBUS protocol. It allows CAN devices such as ECUs, sensor systems, motors and recording systems to communicate seamlessly with PROFIBUS networks such as Siemens PLCs.

  • Transmission speed - from 1Mb/s on a 25m bus to 10Kb/s on a bus length of up to 5000m.

How does the CAN to PROFIBUS converter work?

The CAN to PROFIBUS converter enables a seamless data exchange between CAN bus and PROFIBUS. Depending on the model, it can operate in mode:

  • CAN-Profibus slave - the master device on the PROFIBUS network communicates with the converter, e.g. a PLC.
  • CAN-Profibus master - the converter manages communication with slaves on the PROFIBUS network.

The converters allow for cyclic data updates or send data in ‘on-change’ mode - only after a change in the CAN frame value. Once the device has been configured, the settings can be saved in a GSD file for quick integration into the PROFIBUS system.
