M-Bus to Modbus converters for meter reading
Industrial M-Bus to Modbus converters
In this section of our shop you will find converters from M-Bus to Modbus TCP or RTU interface. M-Bus is the standard used for reading various types of consumer meters such as gas meters, water meters, electricity meters, heat meters and others. The converters allow the integration of M-Bus devices into Modbus TCP or RTU (e.g. control systems, air conditioning, heating, BMS).
Learn more about our M-Bus to Modbus converters
Each M-Bus to Modbus converter in our range features easy DIN rail mounting, immunity to electromagnetic interference and the ability to be installed in outdoor boxes and environments with a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C. Our M-Bus to Modbus converters are versatile devices suitable for use in diverse industrial environments.
Converters support all meters communicating in the M-Bus protocol, including manufacturers such as Kamstrup, Astat, Schrack, BMeters, Apator and many others. Depending on the model, the converter can read 20, 40, 80, 160 or 250 meters on a single bus. The devices have M-Bus connectors for connecting meters (screw connector), Ethernet for programming and communication over Modbus TCP and RS-485 and RS-232 for communication over Modbus RTU (screw connectors). The converters for reading the status of the M-Bus meters on the Modbus protocol side always operate as Modbus slaves.
The maximum power consumption of the converters depends on the number of meters connected to it, with 20 meters it is 4W, with 40 meters 5W, with 80 meters 8W, with 160 meters 14W and with 250 meters it is 30W. The M-Bus, as standard, allows meters to be connected on a bus with a maximum length of 350m with a JYStY N*2*0.8mm cable with a resistance of 29Ω and a baud rate between 300b/s and 9600b/s. To increase the length of the bus, we can lower the baud rate or reduce the number of counters plugged into the bus so that the bus voltage does not drop below 12V at any time. If achieving this is not possible, we suggest using M-Bus converters.
Thanks to the free software included with each device, the converters are very easy to configure. The included Scan&Decode tool allows you to very quickly scan the entire M-Bus and assign variables from all counters to subsequent Modbus registers. The configuration tool also allows mathematical operations on the readings (multiplication and division) and manual configuration of the readings of selected counter values.
