IN701KNX6000000 – KNX to Modbus Gateway, 600 Points, RTU & TCP.

The IN701KNX6000000 gateway empowers system integrators to bridge any KNX installation with Modbus-based Building Management Systems—whether serial Modbus RTU or Ethernet-based Modbus TCP. Capable of handling up to 600 data points, the device exposes KNX communication objects as Modbus registers (and vice-versa), allowing both worlds to exchange real-time values, scenes and alarms as if they belonged to a single infrastructure. This versatility dramatically simplifies KNX retrofits in plants where Modbus already underpins HVAC, energy metering or SCADA supervision.

Unlike single-protocol gateways, dual-stack support lets you run RTU and TCP simultaneously—ideal for mixed topologies where legacy PLCs still speak RS-485 while modern BMS servers reside on gigabit backbones. Up to five Modbus TCP clients can poll the gateway in parallel without race conditions, while serial masters view the same dataset in a fully coherent manner. The built-in KNX TP1 interface is opto-isolated to protect delicate KNX bus electronics from industrial ground loops.

Commissioning is handled through Intesis MAPS—a free, Windows-based configuration suite that ships with a library of ready-made project templates. Drag-and-drop mapping, object search, batch offset creation and CSV import/export cut engineering hours to a minimum. When projects evolve, simply re-upload the CSV and the gateway will reconcile new addresses without disrupting live traffic. Firmware updates and diagnostics are equally straightforward thanks to the console port or the web-enabled Ethernet interface.

From an operational standpoint, the device supports data logging and event triggers directly in the KNX backbone, so Modbus masters can react to lighting scenes, blind positions or presence sensors with millisecond latency. Conversely, KNX actuators can respond to Modbus-originated commands such as energy-price signals, solar-inverter excess production or threshold alarms from power-quality meters—paving the way for advanced load-shedding strategies and peak-demand optimisation in smart buildings.

Cyber-secure deployments benefit from separate RTU and TCP firewall zones, VLAN tagging on the Ethernet port, and password-protected MAPS projects. With both UL certification and full CE compliance, the IN701KNX6000000 is recognised by consultants worldwide and can be specified in hospitals, airports and mission-critical data centres demanding rigorous quality assurance. The product succeeds the legacy IBOX-MBS-KNX line, offering three times the point capacity and a modern ARM processor for future firmware features.

Typical real-estate deployments include luxury hotels where KNX guest-room controllers must share occupancy status with a central Modbus BMS, university campuses retrofitting legacy boilers with Modbus RTU, and industrial facilities that require bidirectional interaction between Modbus energy analysers and KNX-based lighting relays. Whatever the scenario, engineers can mount the gateway on DIN rail or a control-cabinet wall in less than five minutes, wire the removable screw terminals, and start mapping points immediately.
