MR005DL – M-Bus data logger for 3 meters with keypad, 2×16 LCD and RS232C.

MR005DL is an independent M-Bus data logger with an integrated keypad and backlit 2×16 LCD, designed for central read-out of up to 3 M-Bus devices (3 unit loads). It combines local on-site operation with a RS232C ↔ M-Bus level converter function and automatic storage of readings in FLASH memory, which makes it a practical choice for small metering and utility monitoring installations.

Local readout and fast diagnostics (keypad + LCD)

MR005DL allows readout without a PC: values can be displayed locally on the LCD and selected via the keypad. This simplifies commissioning and service, because you can browse readings sequentially or call a single meter whenever you need a quick on-site verification.

Automatic logging – schedule from 1 minute up to 1 year

The core feature of MR005DL is periodic M-Bus readout and storage according to a defined schedule. Logging can be configured as fixed intervals (from 1 minute up to 1 week) or as fixed points in time (e.g., end-of-month readout). The logging setup can be handled locally via keypad/LCD or remotely via RS232C (PC/modem).

Memory and data export to a PC

MR005DL stores readings in internal FLASH memory operating as a cyclic ring buffer. Standard memory size is 1 MB, with options up to 2 MB or 4 MB, and the minimum capacity is at least 4000 telegrams (shared across the number of meters). Logged data can be retrieved via RS232C (direct PC connection or modem) for further analysis and reporting.

RS232C: PC / MODEM ports and “transparent” mode

The device provides an RS232C interface with two DB9 connectors (PC and MODEM) — only one of them can be active at a time. When inactive, MR005DL can operate as a transparent level converter, allowing an external system to use it as the physical M-Bus layer. Note that while the unit is being operated locally (keypad/LCD) or during automatic readout, RS232 access to the bus may be temporarily limited.

M-Bus protection and transmission parameters

MR005DL is built for stable operation in small M-Bus networks: it supports 300–9600 Baud, includes echo suppression, and provides short-circuit and overcurrent protection. Three pairs of M+/M- terminals are available, and M-Bus wiring is polarity-independent.

DIN rail mounting and power supply

MR005DL is intended for control cabinets and mounts on DIN EN50022 TS35. The housing is IP20, and the power input supports a wide range typical for automation panels, enabling easy integration into existing installations.
