MR006 IR – PW20 M-Bus master level converter for up to 20 meters, with RS232C and optical interface.

MR006 IR is a compact M-Bus level converter (master) designed for remote powering and remote readout of up to 20 M-Bus devices (0..20 standard unit loads), such as water, heat, electricity and gas meters, and pulse meters. Built on the PW20 platform, it is short-circuit proof and offers a wide supply range, making it well suited for both building and industrial metering systems.

Use case: larger M-Bus networks up to 20 meters

MR006 IR is a practical choice when you need central power and readout for a larger number of meters on a single bus: substations, building utility billing, distributed metering points and industrial measurement nodes. With support for up to 20 standard loads, you can scale small and mid-sized M-Bus networks without adding external repeaters in many typical layouts.

RS232C interface: terminals + DB9, echo suppression

MR006 IR provides an RS232C interface for issuing requests and receiving response telegrams from the M-Bus network. RXD, TXD and GND are available on both screw terminals and the front DB9 connector, and echo is suppressed for stable communication. Please note that RS232C is not galvanically isolated from the power supply and the M-Bus — if isolation is required, the optical interface is the recommended access path.

ZVEI optical interface: convenient readout without a permanent PC

The MR006 IR variant includes an additional ZVEI-compliant optical interface for convenient readout using a handheld terminal and an optical head. External light suppression is implemented to reduce disturbances, and only 300..2400 Baud are guaranteed on the optical interface.

Bus parameters and wiring range

MR006 IR supports M-Bus speeds of 300..9600 Baud and provides a quiescent bus voltage of about 30.5 V ±5%. Overcurrent interruption typically occurs at 50..70 mA with a minimum switch-off time of approx. 50 ms. Cable capacitance and resistance affect signal quality, so achievable network expansion depends on baud rate (example cable: JYSTY nx2x0.8): > 1000 m at 9600 Bd, > 4000 m at 2400 Bd, > 12000 m at 300 Bd. Maximum distance to a meter is approx. 6900 m with 5 meters, 5100 m with 10 meters and 3200 m with 20 meters. The unit offers three M+/M- terminal pairs, and polarity is irrelevant in M-Bus wiring.

Mounting and power supply

MR006 IR is intended for TS35 DIN rail mounting (EN 50022) and can also be wall-mounted by repositioning the fixture. Power input supports 10..27 VAC or 10.5..28 VDC (typ. 6 W AC / 4 W DC). The housing is IP20, made of ABS (RAL 7035), with dimensions approx. 78×56×118 mm. Operating temperature range is 0..55°C.
